KING ZEUS ON THE RIGHT TRACK
The promise he showed as a three year old has turned into performance this preparation with four wins and a runner up finish from his last five starts. "mentally he just wasn't there last season, he was a big dumbo and he's really only just starting to put it together," co-trainer Donna Logan said.
He can get to the front and start waiting for the others, but he's getting that competitive edge and starting to switch right on. "The Counties and Waikato Cups are the sort of races that will suit him from where he will be at the weights." In the meanwhile, king Zeus comes back from a brief break in Saturday's Listed Team Welleans Matamata Cup.
“He’s very well but there is a question mark on him depending how wet the track might become,” Logan said. “Seed Of Speed has won at Matamata before and handled it wet and heavy and I think he is very well-placed in the cup.”
The stable have their runners spread far and wide with representatives at the South Canterbury meeting on Friday, at Winton on Sunday and at Paeroa on Monday. The capable Uncle Shayne was a runner-up on his home track two runs back before an unplaced run on a Good 2 track at Riccarton. He will be a threat if he strikes his preferred conditions in the Ryal Bush Transport Southland Cup on Sunday.
“On a dead track he will be a really good chance and if it stays firm he won’t run,” Logan said.
