LOGAN RACING RUNNERS GUIDE

Logan Racing Weekend Preview

Off the back of a solid weekend of racing at Hawkes Bay, Logan Racing will be represented by a total of 14 runners this weekend. We have just two horses racing at Matamata on Saturday, highlighted by RICHIE MCHORSE who is entered in the Matamata Cup.

With the bulk of our runners being in Singapore, we have five entered on Friday night, including VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL. Then Sunday sees the team saddle up seven runners on the Kranji card.

Friday 12 October - Kranji

Race 2 – No. 1 THUNDER DRAGON – Erasmus Aslam

Our first runner this weekend is a talented son of Super Easy. THUNDER DRAGON will line up in the Restricted Maiden ($85,000) over 1200m on the turf short course. He is a horse that began his career as a 2YO in New Zealand. He had just the three races in New Zealand where he managed just the one third. He was always a horse who would be better with age and now as a 3YO we are hoping he can show his true ability. THUNDER DRAGON will be having his first race in Singapore and he should benefit from the run. We are confident that he will run a good race, but with the fitness and experience he will gain on Friday he will be better for it. Unfortunately, he will jump from barrier eleven of 12 for stable rider Erasmus Aslam. THUNDER DRAGON will carry 56KG with the advantage of the 1KG claim. He has had two quiet trials since arriving in Singapore and will develop in to a horse that will work through the grades nicely.

Race 2 – No. 10 THE JEWELLER – Alysha Collett

The second stable runner in the Restricted Maiden ($85,000) over 1200m is a 3YO son of Bernardini. He has had just one trial in Singapore and he will also take great improvement from this race on Friday. Alysha Collet was aboard at the trials and will again take the reins for this. THE JEWELLER has come up with a better draw than his stablemate of gate six of 12 with 57KG. THE JEWELLER is another horse that has plenty of ability and he is definitely a horse to follow in to the future.

Race 3 – No. 11 REDOUBT – Erasmus Aslam

REDOUBT is a 5YO son of Not a Single Doubt who runs in the Class 4 Premier ($60,000) over 1200m on the Polytrack. He was having his first run for the stable last start in a Class 4 Non-Premier (21 September) over 1000m and was very solid in finishing fifth. REDOUBT will appreciate the step up to 1200m of this assignment. He is making a step up on Friday but he has the benefit of a low barrier in gate two of 12. Erasmus Aslam will be having his first ride raceday aboard him and his 1KG claim mean he has just 51.5KG to carry. A horse that hasn’t won in over 12 months, REDOUBT is well over due his return to the winner’s circle. We are confident he is on track to regain form and should go a much better race this Friday.

Race 4 – No. 3 ASHHAB – S Shafrizal

ASHAAB is a consistent 4YO by Dalghar who runs on Friday night in the Maiden 1200m ($20,000) on the turf short course. He is a horse that has had just two runs for the stable and both have been very brave efforts. He always gives 110% and this race looks to be weaker than his last assignment. Jumping from a good barrier of five from 12, ASHAAB will also have the benefit of the 2KG claim from S Shafrizal, meaning he will carry just 52.5KG. He is an honest horse that the stable is confident will win a race soon. Back to the 1200m this weekend, expect to see ASHAAB finishing much closer.

Race 6 – No. 2 VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL – Alysha Collett

Our final runner on Friday is our flag bearing star, VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL. The Tavistock gelding runs in the Kranji Stakes A ($125,000) over 1400m on the turf short course. He was last seen running sixth over 1200m (23 September) in a race where he carried 5.5KG more than the next highest weighted runner. He has benefitted enormously from the first up run and will strip much fitter for this. Stepping up to the 1400m in this, he should find it much more suitable and will look to be finding the line strongly. He is being aimed at bigger assignments later on in this prep and this will be treated as another maintenance run for those goals. Alysha Collett will stay aboard him and they have been given barrier two of 14, he will have to carry the top weight of 59.5KG again. We are very pleased with how he has come through that last run and are confident that he will go a much more improved race.

Saturday 13 October – Matamata

Race 6 – No. 8 RICHIE MCHORSE – Jake Bayliss

RICHIE MCHORSE will run in the Team Wealleans Matamata Cup (Listed) over 1600m ($50,000) on Saturday. He is our first runner on the card and the talented son of Redoute’s Choice is chasing his second black-type success in this event. He has drawn gate nine of 14 for Jake Bayliss, the pair last combined for success in the Listed Hawkes Bay Cup (14 April). He will carry 55KG in this and should be every bit competitive based on his two runs so far this prep. Both of his runs so far have been at Ruakaka (1 & 15 September) and he has been seen finding the line impressively on both occasions, and the step up to 1600m will be ideal. RICHIE MCHORSE is in for a solid summer cups campaign and this race is a perfect springboard into the rest of his summer preparation.

Race 8 – No. 10 FINAL SUGGESTION – Sam Spratt

Our second and last runner at Matamata is a 4YO son of Any Suggestion. He runs in the Colchester Engineering LTD 2000m ($30,000). FINAL SUGGESTION has begun to string together a very impressive record to date, where he has won three races from the eight starts. Last start (29 September) he was seen again winning at Avondale over 2100m and again makes the step up in class for this race on Saturday. He has drawn nicely in barrier four of 16 in this and Sam Spratt will continue her association at 56KG. This is a very competitive race and he will need to make the step up again, but he is a horse that has shown lots and will only get better with more racing as his career progresses.

Sunday 14 October - Kranji

Race 1 – No. 1 MAJULAH – Michael Rodd

MAJULAH runs in the Kranji Stakes D 1200m ($38,000) on the turf short course on Sunday and the son of Postponed is having his second run for the stable off the back of a break. He was unplaced last start but we were very pleased with his effort and the natural improvement he has taken from the run should hold him in good stead for Sunday. Champion hoop Michael Rodd hops aboard and they jump from gate nine of 11, carrying the top weight of 58KG. We are expecting him to go a much improved race from his first up effort and he can steal some of this at good odds.

Race 2 – No. 9 STORM TO WIN – WS Chan

With two acceptors in the Restricted Maiden ($85,000) over 1000m on the Polytrack on Sunday, the first in the book is the well related 3YO son of Storm Creek. STORM TO WIN is from the same family as Group 1 winner TURN ME LOOSE. He has spotted just the once in Singapore at the trials. Off the back of an easy trial on debut he will come out of this with plenty of improvement. Stable apprentice WS Chan will take the ride and claim 3KG so STORM TO WIN will carry just the 54KG from gate five of 10. STORM TO WIN is a horse that will be better with more time under his belt and the further he gets into his career the better he will be.

Race 2 – No. 10 SUPER POSH – Vlad Duric

The second stable runner in the Restricted Maiden ($85,000) is the impressive trial winning son of Super Easy. SUPER POSH was brilliant in his only trial to date scoring a very pleasing win. He steps out in a very competitive race but should be more than capable of going close. Leading rider Vlad Duric will be aboard in this race at 57KG and they have come up with gate two of 10. With the right run SUPER POSH is a good chance of winning this event.

Race 4 – No. 5 SHAHBAA – Erasmus Aslam

Road to Rock gelding, SHAHBAA lines up in the Open Maiden 1600m ($20,000) on the turf short course. He is the horse that was ultra-impressive three starts ago in absolutely flashing home in the straight to just go down in a tight finish. He is back to the 1600m on the turf and should find this race very suitable. Stable rider Erasmus Aslam will be aboard and he will take the 1KG claim off, meaning SHAHBAA will carry 56.5KG from gate six of 14 in a race that we are confident he can bounce back to form in.

Race 6 – No. 11 BURKAAN – S Shafrizal

Sunday will see the return to racing of this extremely talented gelding by Burgundy. He was the stables second ever winner in Singapore two starts ago and he will line up in the Class 4 Non-Premier ($45,000) over 1000m on the Polytrack. This will be his first run since July when he finished 7thover 1200m on a wet turf track. Back to the 1000m on the Polytrack is where we are likely to see the best of the speedy 3YO. He will be partnered by S Shafrizal who claims the 2KG down to 51.5KG. BURKAAN is drawn nicely in barrier one of 14 and should be able to race in his customary position near the speed from there. He has been working super and the stable is confident of a bold showing from BURKAAN on Sunday.

Race 8 – No. 5 KEY SUCCESS – Vlad Duric

The stables most recent winner, KEY SUCCESS is a horse in brilliant form at the moment and he runs in the Kranji Stakes C ($80,000) over 1600m on the Polytrack. Back to the course and distance where he last won, this race looks ideal for him. The Fully Fledged gelding has had one win and three thirds from his last four outings and we are confident he will keep this record going on Sunday. The field for this race is an open one and he goes up in rating but he will be aided by leading rider Vlad Duric, who was in the saddle for his latest win. The pair have to jump from barrier seven of 11 and he will carry 56.5KG.

Race 10 – No. 1 GREEN STAR – WS CHAN

Our final representative on Sunday is the stables first ever Singaporean winner GREEN STAR. The Iffraaj gelding is entered in the Class 4 Non-Premier ($45,000) on the turf short course. He makes the long-awaited step out to 1400m, which on his recent racing, he is crying out for. Last start (25 September) he was ridden cold early and was finding the line brilliantly late to finish 5th. The step up to 1400m in this race looks every bit welcomed and with the 3KG claim of WS Chan, GREEN STAR will carry 54KG. He will jump from gate five of 14 and the stable is very confident of a bold showing from a horse that we have a lot of time for. With a good run in transit he is a genuine winning chance.
