VOLKSTOK'N'BARREL RESUMES AT WAIKATO IN THE $200K GROUP 1 NRM SPRINT OVER 1400M ON SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY
Race 2 the Foster Maintain 1200m 2 year old set weights and penalties sees Wyndspelle start from barrier 6 ridden by Danielle Johnson. The Iffraaj colt is owned by J Frew, S Hanna, Jen Campin Bloodstock Ltd and NP Randles. He ran second on debut at Ruakaka on January 5th after missing the kick and coming home strongly out wide. A small field of 6 starters and he should be right in the finish in this.
Race 3 the The Design Depot 1400m Rating 65 Benchmark sees Cambridge start from barrier 10 ridden by Mark Du Plessis. The 3 year old colt by in form sire Tavistock is owned by NZ Thoroughbred Holding Ltd. His form line is 3-1-1-0 with a last start win at Ruakaka on January 5th and then an 8th in the Hallmark Stud Mile at Ellerslie. He is a really powerful colt that we expect to be hard to beat.
Race 6 the Herbie Dyke Stakes (Group 1) WFA over 2000m sees Valley Girl start from barrier 3 ridden by Lisa Allpress. The 3 year old Mastercraftsman filly is owned by D, L and S Hawkins and Llanhennock Trust. Her form line is 5-2-0-1 with a very strong win last start in the Hallmark Stud Mile at Ellerslie after starting awkwardly. The stable have a big opinion of this filly and have been aiming her at the Derby or Oaks, and with only 4 original nominations for the race we decided to have a go at getting some Black Type on the way. It is a very strong field but she will carry only 52kg. She is capable of getting some of this. Go Leigh.
Race 8 the Group 1 NRM WFA Sprint over 1400m sees Volkstok'n'barrel start from barrier 13 ridden by Leith Innes. The 4 year old Tavistock gelding is owned by Garry Cossey, Anne Gibbs, Jim Gibbs MNZM and Chris Gibbs, Ashley Goodwin, Donna Logan and Rosemont Stud , and needs no introduction with 15 starts for 6-1-3. He has recovered well from Asthma and ran a great trial at Avondale recently finishing second to Turn Me Loose when a fraction portly. Whatever he does here he will improve on and don't be surprised to see him go a blinder. His track work has been very good but the draw is not great.
