VOLKSTOK'N'BARREL WINS HIS 4TH GROUP 1 IN THE $400000 HERBIE DYKE STAKES AT WAIKATO
There were excited owners on both sides of the Tasman on Saturday including Anthony Mithen from Rosemont Stud who watched the winners ceremony via Chris Gibbs cell phone. Anthony and his mates brought the Sydney Sales complex to a stand still with their cheering .Nigel Austin watched from home with family and friends and cheered Trevor home in what was a double celebration after the recent arrival of the latest addition to the Austin family. A spectacular ride saw Vinnie Colgan jump and sit off the speed ready to pounce. After getting off the fence he was momentarily held up by Coleman on Savile Row and then when he got out he sprinted and it was all over. A huge run with a big weight. Take nothing away from Savile Row who was running Volkstok'n'barrel down in the final few meters with his lighter weight. This colt has a massive future.
Most of the New Zealand owners were on course , Ashley Goodwin lead the horse in after his victory and said it was his greatest day in racing which was a big statement considering he has owned horses that won the Rosehill Guineas and the Wellington Cup. Jim Gibbs, Anne Gibbs ,Chris Gibbs, Donna Logan , Garry Cossey were all there , and were invited up to the new Herbie Dyke Lounge. The Waikato Club have a renovation they can be proud of. Very nice up on the second floor and the representatives of the club did a really professional job of looking after the connections of Volkstok'n'barrel.
There are some nice Group races coming up in New Zealand and whether he ventures to Australia is still to be discussed.
