QIJI PHOENIX AND FLOATING HEART WIN AT TE RAPA WEDNESDAY 1ST MARCH

Race 2 the Become A Waikato Racing Club Member 1200m Maiden 2 Year Old was won impressively yesterday by Qiji Phoenix. A great ride by Jason Wardell who after getting back moved the horse up to be just off the speed and then came very wide to fight off the second horse Cousteau by a long neck with more than 4 lengths back to the next horse.  Hard to go wide and win like he did. Carried 57.5 kg from barrier 9 in a time of 1.11.17 , the last 600m in 0.34.57. This is a nice colt. He is by Not A Single Doult and is owned by Fudong Niu. His stable name is Owen , named after Mr Niu's nephew who has a great interest in horses and is part of the Logan Racing family. Qiji Phoenix is pronounced Che G Phoenix. This was the first 2 year old race run under the new $10000 minimum stakes , a much appreciated boost for the industry.

Race 6 the Greene Brothers Rating 65 Benchmark 1400m was won by Floating Heart. A patient ride by Danielle Johnson saw the 4 year old Encosta De Lago mare pounce in the last 50m and win by a head. Carried 57 kg from barrier 7.  She ran the fastest last 600m in 0.34.66 seconds which was the winning of the race when put in the right spot. Owned by Sir Peter Vela  and has a nice form trail of 7 starts for 2-2-1-1-1. Floating Heart was the 34th winner for the stable for the season. This was Sir Peter's second winner for the day after Cote D'or won the first race.
