LOGAN RACING WEEKEND PREVIEW - RUAKAKA AND SINGAPORE

Logan Racing Weekend Preview

Logan Racing have 2 runners engaged across the weekend at Kranji and 26 horses in at Ruakaka on Saturday. Donna is hoping to keep her good record with 2YO runners going at the weekend with last start winner BURKAAN in on Sunday (01 July), as well as KEY SUCCESS who is looking to turn around his stable debut performance last start on Friday night.

Chris has a large team in on Saturday as he is trying to back up the huge day the stable had at the last home track meeting where we had five winners on the day. Highlighted by a trio of runners in the Northpine Waipu Cup, with last start winner VINEVALE looking to keep her good run of form going as well as ROCKABYEBABY and, RIKKI TIKKI TAVI who are destined for the winners circle again in the near future.

Friday 29 June 2018 - Kranji

R3 – No. 4 KEY SUCCESS – Alysha Collett

The first runner for the weekend runs in the Class 4 Non-premier 1200m ($45,000) on the Polytrack. The Fully Fledged 4YO made his stable debut last start (15 June). With one win and one second coming from his three starts prior to joining Logan Racing, he is a very promising horse. KEY SUCCESS won a trial over 1000m at Kranji on the 22nd May for the stable. He will be partnered by Group 1 winning jockey and expat New Zealander, Alysha Collett. At his last start, KEY SUCCESS drew wide and was hampered at the jump, causing him to get back in the field, from where he found it hard to run on. KEY SUCCESS will again jump from a wide barrier, coming up with gate eleven of 14, carrying 56.5kg. KEY SUCCESS has already put together a nice record in Singapore and Donna is very happy with what she has seen from him since joining the stable. She put his last start disappointment down to the interference at the jump and things simply not going to plan. Based on his work and his performance at the trials, Donna sees him as a great chance to turn around his performance last start. History could be made if the female combination of Trainer and Jockey have success.

Saturday 30 June 2018 - Ruakaka

R1 – No. 8 LUMBERJACK – Cameron Lammas

The first of the stables runners for the day is this 2YO Redwood gelding. LUMBERJACK has had just the one trial to date back in January of this year, where he was seen to be hitting the line nicely over the 800m. He is a horse that Chris feels is every bit of a derby type as a 3YO and he has a very high opinion of him. Making his raceday debut in the Almanzor at Cambridge Stud 2YO ($22,500) over the 900m will be far short of his best but it is a great starting point for him. He will gain valuable raceday experience and whatever he shows on Saturday, he will only improve with more racing in the future. LUMBERJACK has drawn barrier two for Cameron Lammas and will carry 56kg at the set weights for the 2YO’s.

R1 – No. 14 HOT PINS – Mathew Cameron

The second runner for the stable in the Almanzor at Cambridge Stud 2YO ($22,500) is HOT PINS, a lovely 2YO Pins filly. She has had the one raceday start, where she lacked the early speed and got back in a fast run race (16 May). She has since had a trial at Avondale (19 June) to keep her up to the mark for this race, she did enough at the trials on an unsuitably heavy track to satisfy Chris. Despite how her form reads, she is a filly that will improve with more racing and ground. She will be partnered by Mathew Cameron from barrier nine, and she will carry 54kg. Chris is confident she can reverse her form and go a bold enough race, however the 900m might prove to be a touch too sharp for her. She is a horse to keep an eye on as she furthers her racing career.

R2 – No. 12 TAV IT UP – Mathew Cameron

We have two runners in the ITM/GIB Whangarei Gold Cup 14 July Maiden 3YO 1200m ($10,000), the first of which is the speedy Tavistock 3YO filly TAV IT UP. She has a fairly mixed form line where she finished last at Matamata (30 May) at her latest appearance. Prior to that performance she was very brave at Ruakaka (16 May) when she was sent forward and fought gamely to the line to finish fifth. The stable is expecting her to return to that level on Saturday as she is back on a more suitable, drier surface. Unfortunately, she has come up with gate ten, for Mathew Cameron, she has been allocated 55.5kg. Chris believes she will produce a performance similar to her last start at Ruakaka, which is good enough to see her right in the finish here.

R2 – No. 15 REDMANN – Cameron Lammas

REDMANN is a strapping 3YO Redwood gelding who has had two trials to date. He was very impressive running second in the first of those trials at Avondale over 800m (15 May) under race rider Cameron Lammas, who has been aboard in both trials. Making his debut on Saturday, he will be another that will learn a lot from the experience but he is a lovely horse who has a lot of ability. Jumping from barrier nine with 57.5kg on his back, Chris considers him a definite horse to watch, he simply expects the horse to go a nice enough race and learn a lot from the run.

R3 – No. 7 FINAL SUGGESTION – Jonathan Riddell

Race 3 sees a raft of stable runners go to the start, the first being FINAL SUGGESTION, the aptly named son of Any Suggestion. He is a horse that has certainly mixed his form in his career so far, however, his last start to the races (25 April) he was severely hampered passing the 600m as he was beginning to work in to it. A horse that appreciate the 1600m of Saturdays assignment, FINAL SUGGESTION has a horrid draw in gate thirteen for in-form rider Jonathan Riddell, who partnered him on debut (28 February). The stable would like to see him finish in the first few as he is likely to continue to work through the grades at Ruakaka over the course of the winter.

R3 – No. 8 AMAZING AZ – Troy Harris

The Festival sale topper of his year, and the most expensive yearling sold at the festival sale since 2012, AMAZING AZ is a cracking Azamour 3YO gelding that is on debut in the Racing Sunday August 12 Maiden 1600m ($10,000). With just the one trial to his name (15 May), this horse has gradually been building towards his debut and Saturdays race looks an ideal starting point for him. He was impressive in finding the line at the trials over 800m, suggesting the 1600m trip will be ideal for him, although first up over 1600m will be tough. Chris has a very high opinion of AMAZING AZ and he sees him as a huge chance in this but he is wary of his lack of experience and knows he will be a lovely horse once the penny drops. He has barrier four on Saturday, and will be ridden by the extremely talented Troy Harris.

R3 – No. 9 ALESUND – Chris Johnson

One of the five stable runners in the race, the Coats Choice 3YO Filly has had just the two raceday start to date, both here at Ruakaka. With a game third on debut, she was able to back up that run with a fast finishing 3rd second up (16 June), she is beautifully placed in this race and she will relish the step up to 1600m. ALESUND will be partnered by Chris Johnson who will be having his first sit on the horse. She has come up with barrier five and will carry 56.5kg. ALESUND has been very impressive at both of her raceday appearances so far closing strongly late, clocking a solid final 600m on debut and finding trouble late last start to still finish close, the step up to the 1600m on Saturday looks to be the best natural progression for her, Chris expects her to go another bold race to finish close.
