LOGAN RACING WEEKEND PREVIEW - SINGAPORE & RUAKAKA

 Logan Racing Weekend Preview

Logan Racing have 4 runners engaged across the weekend at Kranji and 23 horses in at Ruakaka on Saturday. Donna has MAKKEM LAD engaged in a Group 2 on Friday night (13 July), as well as two runners making stable debuts.

Christopher and new training partner, Michelle have another large team in on Saturday as he is trying to keep the stable in flying form like the last two home track meetings where we have had nine winners. Highlighted by four runners in the ITM/GIB Whangarei Cup, as well as last start winner VINEVALE who is aiming for a hat-trick of wins.

Friday 13 July 2018 - Kranji

R6 – No. 12 MAKKEM LAD – Alysha Collett

The 2YO Kuroshio gelding is having his third career start in the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe Group 2, the final leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series, 1200m ($325,000) on the turf short course. Second on debut (18 May), and second again at his last start. He has shown true grit at both of his outings, drawing wide and still managing to dig in for second. He has made natural improvement with more time and racing in Singapore and will be better for the experience. Unfortunately, he has come up with barrier ten of 16, where he will carry 56kg under Alysha Collett. Donna is very happy with how he has been working, and she is confident that he can run another big race in his ‘grand final’ on Friday.

R8 – No. 3 GOOD CATCH – WS Chan

GOOD CATCH is a talented son of Falkirk who lines up in the Kiwi Karma 2014 stakes class 4 non-premier 1100m on the Polytrack ($45,000). He will be having his first run for the stable but has come to us with a good record already established. Having only finished outside the first four from his seven starts to date. He has a good record on the Polytrack where he will be guided by stable apprentice WS Chan from barrier seven of 14, with the apprentice claim he will only have to carry 54KG. Having only been in the stable for a short period, Donna is looking forward to learning more about the horse from the run, however, she is very pleased with what he has shown her and she feels he should be able to keep his good record intact.

Saturday 14 June 2018 - Ruakaka

R1 – No. 2 VINEVALE – Cameron Lammas

Saturday will see the extremely consistent 5YO Flying Spur mare have her third start for the stable. VINEVALE came to us with three wins and a further eight minor placings to her name, she has added to that great record last start with a second win from her two starts for the stable. Chris was very taken with how impressive she was at her first and second starts for the stable. She is a mare that has won over 1200m and performed up to 2100m, the 1400m, which she won at last start, isn’t a concern at all. Breaking from gate one of 5, Cameron Lammas will be aboard, and she will only have to carry 54KG. What Chris has seen from her since her win last start, she has impressed him and he feels she is a huge chance of taking out Saturdays race.

R1 – No. 5 ROCKABYEBABY – Samantha Collett

In the ITM/GIB Open ($35,000), the stable lines up two runners, the second of which being the extremely talented 4YO Rip Van Winkle mare, ROCKABYEBABY. A lightly raced horse with plenty of ability, she has shown this by winning four of her races so far, three of those at the 1400m trip of Saturday’s race and all of those coming at Ruakaka. Unfortunately, she has had more than her fair share of injury hassles to contend with throughout her short career, but on her day, she is nothing short of a top-class mare, highlighted by her hat-trick of wins last campaign, where she beat subsequent stakes performers CHARLES ROAD, SNOW SECRET and, JIAYUGUAN. Saturday will see her having her third run this campaign after nine months off the scene, and she comes in to this race with a lovely second last time out behind stable mate VINEVALE. ROCKABYEBABY has barrier four of 5 to overcome on Saturday, with the county’s leading rider Samantha Collett aboard at 54kg. She has been training superbly, building in to this race and all signs suggest she is more than capable of performing up to her best, and going close to putting this field away.

R2 – No. 3 VIVA LA BURGUNDY – Jonathan Riddell

The aptly named 3YO Burgundy gelding is having his second start this campaign after a small break, he will start in the Croft Poles Maiden 1200m ($10,000). He is a horse that has taken time to mature, but has always shown natural ability, highlighted by his third placing in a maiden 1400m behind stable star DANZDANZDANCE back on the 6th January. He goes into the race with the benefit from the fresh up run, he will be a horse that will improve the further we get in to winter with more racing coming up at Ruakaka being his short-term goal. VIVA LA BURGUNDY has come up with barrier three, where he will carry 58.5kg under rider Jonathan Riddell. Chris is confident that he will enjoy a good run from the draw and will be closing strongly late, and will take improvement from the run to aid his progress through Saturday and further into the future.

R2 – No. 6 LEAVING TOWN – Shaun McKay

LEAVING TOWN, is a son of Power from the family of top sprinter DURHAM TOWN. He makes his debut on Saturday. He has had four trials to date with the most recent being a top performance to finish 3rd at Avondale over 800m. He will be a horse that will improve on whatever he shows on Saturday. He has form around good horses at the trials and has always been a cracking type that has shown plenty of ability. Drawing gate six, he is to be ridden by Shaun McKay on Saturday under 58.5KG. The stable expects a good run from him but is more excited to see the improvement he will take from the run and how much it will aid him moving forward.
