The trick to The Big Easy is to literally make it very simple for him: Let him gallop and he will give you his best.

 

That straightforward rule was once again – for the third time on the trot - proven right in Tuesday’s $70,000 Lim’s Stable Stakes, a Class 3 race over 1000m.

 

With his two previous Kranji wins captured by taking no prisoners upfront, the wide gate (10) did present a hiccup to the adoption of such tactics again, but after The Big Easy came across effortlessly under first-time partner Nooresh Juglall to take the helm, the race was all over bar the shouting from that point onwards.

All the Mauritian jockey had to do was steady up the ship and wait for the home straight to throw out the anchors.

 

He did exactly that, and at the 300m, his only threat, debutant and his $18 joint-favourite Fulife King (Benny Woodworth) was snipping away at the lead, but soon had to give up on his bold attempt in reeling him back in.

 

A few metres before the winning post, Juglall could even afford to sit up and pose for the camera as The Big Easy strolled in by three lengths from Fulife King, who will surely be a force to reckon with in those speed dashes.

 

Snip (Syahir Abdul) ran third another two and a half lengths away. The winning time was a slick 59.13 seconds for the 1000m on Polytrack.

 

Logan, who was saddling a training double after another up-and-comer Makkem Lad saluted earlier (see other report), said The Big Easy was unbeatable when he had his own way in front.

 

“He’s got a high cruising speed. You just have to let him run,” said the Kiwi handler who was sharing the New Year’s Day training honours with Daniel Meagher (also trained two winners, Fighting Warrior and Letitgo).

 

“I’m a big fan of Super Easy who was a champion horse here. I bought a dozen of them and back home, there is Super Gee who won one from two starts and could be my Derby horse there.”

 

Juglall, who was sealing his first winning partnership with Logan after enjoying increasing support from her in recent months, said that The Big Easy was a bit of a double-edged sword.

 

“Today, I just let him do everything he wants to do,” said the Mauritian jockey, who finished fourth on the Singapore log on 46 winners last year.

 

“I didn’t rush him and I didn’t fight him, just let him feel free. If he goes too fast and you take him back, it won’t work.

 

“He’s got a high cruising speed. If he gets a soft lead, he will give you his best.

 

“Thanks to Donna for the ride. I’m glad I was able to ride a winner on New Year’s Day.”

 

The Big Easy has now collected close to $100,000 for The Big Easy Stable from his three wins from four starts.
