Attached video of Valley Girl working on Tuesday 1st March at Ruakaka. The track was perfect after 25mm of rain overnight. She stretched out perfectly with the last 3 sectionals over 600m in 12 second evens.
Derby Day falls on the day of the first anniversary of Dean Logan's death. Danielle Johnson will attempt to become the first women to win the NZ Derby and Durham Town will attempt to win back to back Darly Plates in what will probably be his last race day appearance.
Race 4 the Barfoot and Thompson 1200m Rating 75 sees Warzone starting from barrier 5 and ridden by Danielle Johnson . The 5 year old War Pass mare is owned by Whakanui Stud Ltd and has had 14 starts for 2-1-1. She was a certainty beaten on February 24th in the AJC Members 1200m and will be hard to beat here.
Race 7 the Darley Plate Opn SW and P 1200m sees Durham Town start from barrier 2 ridden by Johnathon Riddell. The 8 year old Falkirk gelding is owned by PD Collins, Mrs A Gibbs, JA Gibbs MNZM, JB Hart, Mrs DM Logan and DN Wale. A career of 34 starts for 8-1-6 earning $416683.50 in stake money. He will need a reasonable track to warrant a start and this will probably be his last race day appearance. He has been a great horse to the owners and the stable and we hope he can go back to back with Darley Plate wins.
Race 8 the McKee Family Sunline Vase 3 Year Old SW 2100m sees Honour Princess start from barrier 12 ridden by Vinny Colgan. The 3 year old Ekraar filly is owned by Ross Powell, Brian Carter, John Carter and Linwood Park Stud Ltd.
She has had 3 starts for 1-0-1 and ran third in her last start at Ellerslie on February 20th. Hopefully she can finish in the first 3 here.
Race 9 the BMW Derby 3 year old SW 2400m sees Valley Girl start from barrier 18 ridden by Danielle Johnson. The 3 year old Mastercraftsman
filly is owned by D,L and S Hawkins and Llachennock Trust. She has had 6 starts for 3-0-1 and won the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes on February 13th at Te Rapa over 2000m . Not the best draw but capable of winning this. Will hopefully get to the Australian Oaks.
